A new incident raised concerns among Greek authorities around midday on March 5, when a young man was seen behaving suspiciously outside the Megara Air Base in the Attica region of Athens.
The man is suspected of taking photos and videos of both private and military activities, reportedly focusing on the moment aircraft were taking off.
The incident was reported by a citizen, after which authorities approached and arrested the suspect. The individual, identified as an Iraqi national born in 2003, is a pilot at a private flight school.
Although he was taken to the Megara Police Station for questioning, authorities reportedly did not find any incriminating evidence. According to available information, he is expected to be released.
The arrest comes amid ongoing war and heightened tensions in the Middle East, particularly as the Greek Cypriot base has recently become a target of attacks from Iran.
