The man who discovered the RAS gene in 1982 just changed cancer treatment forever!
A Spanish scientist is being hailed online as someone who actually deserves the spotlight. Dr. Mariano Barbacid has led research showing a major breakthrough against the most common type of pancreatic cancer, one of the deadliest and hardest to treat. His team used a three drug combination to attack the cancer from different angles.
In lab mice that closely mimic human disease, the treatment completely wiped out tumors, showed low toxicity, and didn’t come back. Experts say human trials are still years away, but for a cancer that kills over 10,000 people a year in Spain alone, the results are being called hugely promising.
Barbacid, who helped discover the RAS cancer gene back in 1982, says this could be a real step toward changing a disease with one of the worst survival rates.
