A man had a very uncomfortable blind date when the woman he met showed up with 23 of her family members. She said she wanted to test how generous he was, but the plan didn’t go as expected. The man, 29-year-old Mr. Lui, chose to leave without paying, so she was left with the $3,100 bill.
The date took place at a restaurant in Zhejiang, eastern China, according to local media. Mr. Lui’s mother had set up the meeting because she was worried he wasn’t dating anyone. Wanting to make a good impression, he agreed to pay for dinner—without knowing the woman had invited her entire extended family.
Later, the woman explained that she brought her relatives to see if Mr. Lui was generous enough for a relationship. While he was willing to pay for a small portion, he felt it was unfair to pay for everyone. He asked her and her family to cover the rest.
In the end, the woman paid the full bill herself. Her attempt to test generosity failed, showing that some tests can seriously backfire.
