On January 14, 1982, 11-year-old Jon Michael Dabkowski and 10-year-old Gabriel Minarcin disappeared while walking the short distance between their homes in Tarentum, Pennsylvania.
Footprints in the snow led to the Allegheny River, fueling speculation they fell through thin ice, though both boys had been told to avoid the river.
Extensive searches found no trace of them, and Gabe’s parents criticized police for assuming drowning without evidence.
In 1998, a man was caught using Jon’s identity, but he had no link to the case. More than 40 years later, the boys’ fate remains unknown
