The pawn shop counter is a place where dreams go to die.
17-year-old Leo placed his acoustic guitar on the glass. It was old, covered in stickers, and clearly loved.
“I need $50,” Leo choked out. “My mom is short on rent.”
He took the cash, looked at his guitar one last time, and walked out wiping his eyes.
A man standing in line behind him saw the whole thing.
He walked up to the broker. “I want to buy that guitar,” he said. “Right now.”
He paid $80 for it.
The man ran out into the parking lot.
“Hey kid!” he shouted.
Leo turned around, scared.
The stranger held out the guitar. “You dropped this.”
Leo tried to explain he sold it.
“No,” the stranger said. “You rented it to me for five minutes. It’s yours. Keep playing.”
He drove away before Leo could say thank you.
