The man, known as Mr Li, was driving his sister’s Xiaomi SU7 Max car in Zhejiang province. A video shared online shows the car’s AI fatigue system sending repeated alerts like “Please focus on driving” and “Drive safely.” The system mistook Mr Li’s natural eye shape for closed eyes.

In the video, Mr Li tries to open his eyes wider to stop the warnings, and the alerts only stop when he does that. When his eyes return to normal, the warnings start again. His sister, who was sitting in the front seat and filming, can be heard laughing.

Mr Li later told Chinese media outlet Sohu that this happens often when he drives his sister’s car, but the same problem never happens when his sister drives.

The incident happened on June 18 and later went viral on social media. After that, Xiaomi Auto’s customer service said that drivers can turn off the fatigue alert feature, but they do not recommend doing so.

Many people online joked about the situation, with comments saying the AI was “confused,” poorly designed, or not properly adjusted for different eye shapes. Some users also shared similar experiences with cars from other brands.
